Although the change in structure is visible immediately after removal of the splint (approximately 7-10 days), the healing process is lengthy. Most of the swelling subsides in the first 3 months, but the nasal tip may retain residual microscopic swelling for longer. The final result and definitive definition of the tissues is usually achieved one year after surgery.

To avoid deformities in the healing nasal bones, sunglasses or frame glasses should not be placed on the bridge of the nose for at least 4 to 6 weeks. If it is necessary to wear them, they should be taped to the forehead. Also, sun exposure should be strictly avoided for the first few months and sunscreen SPF 50+ should always be used, as the sun can cause permanent dark pigmentation of the still swollen skin.

The results of rhinoplasty are long lasting. However, the nose continues to age naturally over time. In rare cases, revision surgery may be necessary for additional adjustments.

In most cases, the incisions are made inside the nose or in inconspicuous areas, so there are no obvious external scars. When the open technique is used, the scar on the columella is usually minimal and inconspicuous.

Initial recovery usually lasts between 7 and 10 days, during which time splints are removed and visible swelling decreases. Residual swelling may persist for several months, and the final result is usually seen within 9 to 12 months.

When properly planned, rhinoplasty does not adversely affect breathing. In fact, in many cases it is combined with correction of the nasal septum or other internal alterations to improve airflow and respiratory function.
