Not all of the transferred fat survives. However, the goal of BBL is for most of the fat graft to permanently integrate. At approximately 6 months, it is possible to assess what percentage of fat has permanently established.

Fat that does not survive is naturally reabsorbed by the body. For this reason, in some cases the surgeon may overcorrect slightly during the procedure.
