Hyaluronic acid filler is a minimally invasive procedure that the vast majority of patients tolerate very well. Prior to infiltration, topical anesthesia is applied to the area to be treated to minimize discomfort. In addition, most of the currently available commercial preparations already include lidocaine in their composition, which contributes to a more comfortable experience during the injection. There may be a slight sensation of pressure at the point of application, but significant pain is rare.
